Well Women of Northern Haiti
MamaBaby Haiti is thrilled to announce our first major grant funded program! Dining For Women has accepted our proposal for the Well Women of North Haiti comprehensive reproductive and sexual health program.
In 2015, the Vaudreuil clinic will begin providing early detection and treatment of cervical cancer, expanded STI screening, and family planning options. Haiti sorely needs each one of these services. Haitian women suffer from the world’s highest reported cervical cancer rates in the world and family planning needs are largely unmet.
Well Women of North Haiti will address these and other health care gaps. The program will improve the health of Haitian women and empower them to have higher self-esteem. In addition to gaining access to screening for and treatment of pre-cancerous lesions, program participants will learn about the proper use of birth control and their own reproductive health. Women will be better equipped to make informed decisions about their bodies and behaviors.
And… in addition to providing hundreds of women per month with medical care and education, this program builds capacity by training our already amazing clinic staff. Their training in resource appropriate screening and treatment techniques will stay with them throughout their careers in Haitian health.
Check out our generous sponsors, Dining for Women. They are a non-profit giving circle dedicated to empowering women and girls living in extreme poverty. They are doing amazing work for women and girls all over the globe! A donation to Dining for Women is a donation to Mama Baby Haiti.
Midwifery School Grant
Hear the Cry is helping us break ground on our longtime dream of starting a Midwifery School. With their help, we will be enrolling our first two midwifery students into our 18 month program to become the first Internationally recognized midwives in Haiti. We hope to have our first students start at the end of summer 2016.
Solar Panel matching Grant
dōTERRA's Healing Hands has graciously matched our solar panel fundraiser which will allow us to purchase, ship, and install the much needed consistent power to our birth center. Our solar panels will be installed in June 2016.
The Scott A. & Elizabeth V. Christensen Foundation has sponsored students from all over Haiti to come and train under our midwives, giving them the opportunity to gain experience in a busy freestanding birth center.
